Life as a Teacher in Bangkok

Accommodation

The good news is that the search for an apartment in Thailand’s capital is not nearly as difficult and time consuming as in most western cities.

You can walk into any apartment block or condo, or find an accommodation on websites such as hipflat, ddproperty, or just search "Property to rent in Bangkok" on Google!

You can expect to pay between 6,000 - 10,000 Baht a month for a decent Condo ($180 - $300), depending on the standard and location you want.

“Bangkok is very safe. If you see anybody wearing camouflage holding a machete, don’t be scared. They sell coconuts.”

(William Godwin)

Food and Drink

Thailand has one of the world's greatest cuisines, rivalling India and China with taste and complexity.

Bangkok is full to brim with street food, small neighbourhood eateries and posh restaurants. Whatever you want to eat, you can find it in Bangkok.

Most streets have local restaurants where you can grab a stir-fry, noodle dish or curry for less than $1.20 per meal. Bottled water is cheap at just $0.20 a bottle, and beer is too, at just $0.90 a can.

Climate

Thailand is a beautiful country that enjoys a year-round hot climate and plenty of sunshine.

April and May have the hottest temperatures, while the weather in June sees the wet season bringing heavy rain through to October. While many regions receive rain during this time, the days are generally sunny and the showers pass quickly.

As a tropical country, it's been said that there are three seasons in Thailand - Hot, Super Hot, Hot and Rainy.

Most classrooms have air conditioning, but some don't, so get ready for the heat!
